The no-frills New England town of Wallingford, Connecticut got a little bit glamorous for an evening the first week in October, as the local Holiday cinemas, more used to groupings of teenagers avoiding curfews, instead featured a full-fledged red carpet film premiere. When North Winds Blow, written, directed, and starring James M. De Vince, a Wallingford native, is an independent film that follows the story of a father who finds difficulties in raising a teenage daughter who increasingly requires guidance while simultaneously rebelling against the rules.
The film, which was shot on a budget of about $5,000, was released by Liquid Chariot Productions, and shot mostly in Connecticut, including numerous scenes in Wallingford itself.
The film premiered on October 8th at the local town theater, where audience was restricted to special “by invitation only” seating, and featured a red carpet, press line, photographers, and the movie’s stars arriving in grand style, including an aquamarine 1963 Cadillac. The film will have a week-long run at the theater, starting October 16.
The film is an all-out New England effort, featuring actors from Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. De Vince’s next project will reportedly have a larger budget of about $6 million, as When North Winds Blow was originally intended as more of a made-for-TV piece. Nevertheless, his creation enabled numerous talents from around the area to gain experience and get work in Hollywood East.
