It was 1978 when the first Halloween movie hit the silver screen, terrifying audiences, and creating an iconic image of horror with the masked character of the unhinged Michael Myers.
31 years and several movies later, Tony Moran, the actor who played the gruesome character during his unmasking in the original film, arrived in the Halloween capitol of the world, Salem, MA this past weekend for a fan meet-and-greet and autograph signing at Count Orlok’s Nightmare Gallery.
The 52-year-old actor told The Salem News that the John Carpenter directed piece was shot in 21 days on a $300k budget. His co-star, Jamie Lee Curtis, was relatively new to movies at the time, having previously appeared in TV shows. At the time he himself had had very limited paid acting gigs, and was sleeping on a friend’s couch.
“I had the same agent as my little sister, Erin, who played Joanie in the TV show “Happy Days.” She said, “It’s slow, but there’s this low-budget, B film…” he told the paper. The actor currently has two films in the works, still as-yet to be released. Beg, a horror film directed and written by Kevin MacDonald, and Stingy Jack, a horror film which will hit theaters on Halloween on 2010.
