BLIFF is Back in Boston

By: Mary Pierce

The 8th Annual Boston Latino International Film Festival returns to Boston. Over 75 films will be screened at selected venues  around the city including the Harvard Film Archive and Boston University until December 13th. Tickets are available and some of the film screenings are free. All films are produced by Latino Filmmakers and are from over 14 countries including the United States, Cuba and Spain.

Not only will BLIFF entertain you through the medium but will captivate its audiences with highly influential documentaries like “Tumaco Pacifico” by Samuel Cordoba, a journey through the eyes of Tumaco natives reflecting on life and living in “a city growing over an ocean of trash” and the closing film of this ten day film festival “Los Dioses Rotos” by Ernesto Daranas, a famous Cuban pimp shot to death by French rivals in control of prostitution in Havana. Watch these two trailers for a glimpse of what you will screen at the festival. Films that are Spanish speaking like these two are subtitled in English.

Festival Director/Founder Jose Augusto Barriga, writes on bliff.org that “eight years ago they had an idea to provide the greater Boston community with highly-quality film festival that would capture and highlight the diverse experiences of Latinos in the United States and abroad. Since then, the festival has grown immensely, and support from the community has been phenomenal.”  For dates, times and venue locations go to the official site at bliff.org.
