The 82nd Annual Academy Awards will air on ABC on March 7th, and Hollywood East connections are sure to abound the show. Boston boy Matt Damon is nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in Invictus. This is his third nomination ever, with both previous being attributed to Good Will Hunting. While he lost for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 1998, he was able to share his win for Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen, with fellow Beantown buddy, Ben Affleck.
By now, its well known that Ms. Streep is no stranger to the nominations category of all the major acting awards, and the Oscars are no exception. Meryl Streep is nominated at this year’s show for Best Actress in a Leading Role for the Boston connected Julie and Julia. This is her 16th Academy Award nomination, including 2 wins. One in 1980 for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Kramer vs. Kramer and one in 1983 in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category for Sophie’s Choice.
Anna Kendrick received her first nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her role in Up in the Air. The up and coming talent, who hails from Portland, Maine originally, also happens to be the second youngest to ever be nominated for a Tony Award.
