One of The Other Guys, Mark Wahlberg, at the Hingham Shipyard

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

Can you feel it, Hingham? We did too. On Tuesday evening, actor Mark Walberg hit the red carpet looking ever so handsome at his brother Paul’s restaurant Alma Nove for the second premiere of his new flic, The Other Guys, also starring Eva Mendas and Will Ferrell. Ferrell’s rumored appearance was all the buzz in the shipyard that night but unfortunately was a no show.

Alma Nove, named after their mother and the nine Walberg children, just opened this past Memorial Day and had no problem becoming one of the hippest places in Hingham. The restaurant was host of the post premiere party, where not only Mark was in attendance but Patriots player Teddy Bruschi, Milian Lucic of the Bruins, and Lowell, MA boxer Micky Ward. The movie’s screening benefited the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation, a program that gives every child a chance for a better future. Tickets to the event were also rumored to be a $1000 bucks a pop.  Check out our highlights of the red carpet event below!

Mark Walhberg, a Dorchester Ma. native, has big clown shoes to fill starring alongside Will Ferrell in the action-comedy cop flick, The Other Guys, out August 6th. The two play bumbling second-rate NYPD cops who are constantly living in the shadow of detectives Christopher Dansen and P.K. Highsmith (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson). They finally get their chance to shine when they bust open a case that no one else wants and it turns out to be one of the biggest cases in New York history.

Add to the plot that Walhberg and Ferrel’s characters can’t get along to save their lives or the lives of others and the cosmic comedy stars are sure to align. Michael Keaton and Eva Mendes star, and Derek Jeter even makes a cameo appearance to give it a true New York City flair.

Marky Mark Is Making Moves

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Holiday shopping may have distracted you from the recent resume-building of Beantown babe Mark Wahlberg, but the actor/producer has been flexing his movie and media muscles lately, keeping busy on- and off-screen.

In the wake of the summer production of his made-in-Massachusetts flick The Fighter, Wahlberg has enjoyed the eventual release of Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones, which hit theaters earlier this month. The actor starred as Jack Salmon in this cinematic interpretation of the critically-acclaimed novel.

But Wahlberg is simply unacquainted with the concept of a “winter break”; with Shawn Levy’s Date Night in post-production, he has started filming the Will Ferrell flick The Other Guys. The Massachusetts mogul will play Detective Terry Hoitz in the comedy set to release next summer.

In behind-the-camera news, Showbiz 411 recently chatted with Wahlberg about his role as the executive producer of HBO’s hit series “Entourage.” He explained that the show is packing at least two more seasons of punch, and added, “We’ll see, there could be more. But then, a movie.”

So put those stocking-stuffer movie passes to good use; support our very own Boston boy at the Box Office, and ring in a new year of success in Hollywood East.

Mark Wahlberg to Star in Reykjavic-Rotterdam Remake

Monday, October 12th, 2009

According to Variety.com, Oscar nominee and Dorchester, MA native Mark Wahlberg is set to star in a remake of the acclaimed Icelandic thriller, Reykjavic-Rotterdam. Prisoners writer Aaron Guzikowski is slated to direct, while Baltasar Kormakur–remake-right owner, producer, and star of the original Reykjavic–will direct.

Entertainment Weekly reported that Reykjavic “… tells the story of a freight ship worker who is fired for smuggling alcohol and becomes a security guard, only to be roped back into one last criminal scheme by his best friend.” Intrigued? Join the club; Reykjavic has been dominating Icelandic film festivals, most notably picking up five EDDA awards at the ceremony in 2008. The original Reykjavic will be Iceland’s foreign language submission for the Oscars in February 2009.

Working Title Films partners Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner (The Soloist, Frost/Nixon) will produce the movie alongside Stephen Levinson (“Entourage”), Wahlberg, and Kormakur.

Hopefully Wahlberg has been stocking up on energy drinks. While his recent repertoire of The Lovely Bones, Date Night, and the made-in-Massachusetts flick The Fighter are all in post-production, The Other Guys is still in filming stages. All film projects are scheduled for release in 2010.
