This year’s Redstone Festival, one of New England’s premier film and television showcases, will be held on February 9 at 7 p.m. at the Tsai Performance Center at Boston University. The event is free and open to the public. The doors will open at 6:25; seats are available on a first come first serve basis.
Sponsored by Sumner Redstone, Chairman of VIACOM, the Redstone Festival features projects written and directed by graduate and undergraduate students from the Boston University’s College of Communication. The winners of the event are chosen by a panel of prominent film professionals selected from throughout the industry. In addition to the short film awards, the judges will announce the winner of the 2010 Fleder-Rosenberg short screenplay contest.
Over the years, Redstone winners and finalists have turned out to be some of Hollywood’s most successful Directors, Screenwriters and Producers. Redstone competitors include such big names as Gary Fleder (Runaway Jury), Joe Roth (Christmas With the Cranks), Director Lauren Ivy Chiong (Testament) Producer Richard Gladstein (Finding Neverland, The Cider House Rules), Producer/Director Robert Patton-Spruill (Squeeze, Body Count), Screenwriters Scott Rosenberg (Con Air, Beautiful Girls) and Steve Brill (The Mighty Ducks). Many of the films have participated in and won film festivals all around the world. Two have even earned Academy Award nominations.
The festival will continue into April, when it travels to Los Angeles for showcase in front of an additional panel of judges.
