With these winter temps, who wants to go outside, let alone continue to network and mingle beyond our warm walls? So why not stay indoors and let your fingers do the walking in your computer? We all can agree the hottest way to stay cooler than the snow is connecting on FB. It’s where networking and your new BF can explore endless opportunities and staying in the know. Newsfeeds from BeantownName, New England Talent and Crew, Mass Movie Mavens and of course Hollywood East Connection are just a few of our daily sips of hot chocolate. Pages like these keep us fit and ready to go.
Or how about keeping one of the most important tools in our toolbox fresh faced during these lip-chapped months? Actors bring headshots with them to auditions, shindigs and more. It’s the key to networking successfully. You might love your recent headshot and your family adores it too, but do you ever wonder what casting agents, directors, or other decision makers are saying about it?
We came across this new site that will help you glow, Type Cast Me dot com, created to help actors solve this very problem of uncertainty. The price to upload one shot is five bucks or three shots for twelve. Once you upload your headshot, the rating begins. Your photo will be available for anyone on the world wide web to rate it for free, and you can delete it anytime.
You might not always like what others think but we’re thick skinned New England actors, and we know it’s part of the game. So if you’re not ready to post yours, go rate mine and the other hundreds of actors joining. Why not check out some of your competition for free? The rating chart is endless, and it can help actors hone in on what type you are, how old people think you are and what people really think of your headshot. In this biz, honesty from outside your circle will only help you. Check it out Type Cast Me dot com.
And if you don’t have a computer, reach for your smart phone and download an acting app. Some favs in the community are Speak Easy Voice Recorder, where you record your roles to play back and better help memorize lines, and Scene Partner, offering actors interactive rehearsing whenever they need it. This app uses text-to-speech software to read lines back from a downloaded script. Also check out Actors Access, which allows you to submit yourself to their auditions directly from your phone. How cool is that!

Let me know if you all need anything at all.
Hi Mary:
Great article. Another tool that actors all over the world are using is out iPerform iPhone app. It’s geared to help across easily manage their contacts, auditions, booked jobs, finances etc. And it helps with getting the word out by allowing you to post to Facebook when you get an audition or book a job.
And unlike some other tools our app works whether you’re connected to the Internet or not.
You can find more info here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iperform/id367291813?mt=8
