Anyone who’s ever been a long-distance relationship has probably thought the experience was anything but funny. Lonely, jealous, heartbreaking even, but never funny. Leave it to real-life gal pals Drew Barrymore and Christina Applegate along with Fairfield, CT native Justin Long to bring out the funny side of taking a relationship bi-coastal in Going The Distance.
Erin (Barrymore) and Garret (Long) meet one steamy summer night in New York City which turns into the inevitable and inadvertent summer fling. Erin has to go back to her job in San Francisco and Garret must remain behind in the Big Apple. What to do? The long distance couple is born. The movie turns into hilarious saga of the trials that come with putting 2,500 miless between them. Add in Erin’s overbearing sister (Applegate) and Garret’s miffed friends cast aside for plane tickets in place of bar covers for the perfect conflict in this rom-com. If that isn’t enough, Jim Gaffigan co-stars with his signature funny-guy persona.
Will Long and Barrymore’s notoriously on-and-off, real-life relationship reflect their characters’ Erin and Garrets? Catch this one in theaters, out September 3rd.
