Five years ago, husband and wife, Kim Brown and TC Kirkham, embarked upon an unpredictable ‘Subject: Cinema’ podcast from their Boston based PNR Networks with a mere 34 listeners. PNR known as Popcorn N Roses is also the couple’s lead movie commentary blog that first inspired the launch of the dot com cinema cast.

Five years later, the weekly podcast is clearly not static with an average of 40,000 listeners. And TODAY not only marks a milestone birthday but 300 shows to boot! Happy birthday Subject: Cinema.

“If you had asked me five years ago if the website, let alone the podcast, would still be around, I would have said “I don’t know”,” TC Kirkham of PNR Networks tells HEC. “But they both are, and growing larger day by day. It is my goal to work full time on our sites and podcast productions eventually, and that day is inching closer and closer,”Kirkham adds.

Are you tuned in? Well we should be. Subject: Cinema is booming the podcast world with crazy wittiness and knee-slapping fun. The cast looks more to the airwaves than other podcasts for inspiration. Each week it’s a different tang of topics about disaster movies, character actors, politics and film.  The announcement of the annual PNR Rising Stars list every July 4th is among one the hottest firework cast tuned into.

“This list is announced each year on July 4th, and has had an impressive 70% or so accuracy rate – the number of young performers who were just getting noticed when named to previous lists that have gone on to become immensely successful, popular, or both has amazed both of us,” Kirkham tells us.

Also the duo have pod’s dedicated to television series like “Dancing With The Stars” and as well as published several other weblogs devoted to independent movies and the local Beantown movie scene.

The two of them have made it their goal in twenty-eleven to try and visit every theater in the metro Boston area at least once, a project that is being chronicled on Subject:CINEMA as well as the Boston Popcorn website. Now that’s wicked!

So blow out some candles with the sizzling cast and click into #300 Subject: Cinema podcast TONIGHT at 6 pm. “300 and Going Strong”.

“Our 5 year, 300 show milestone will be celebrated with our biannual anniversary countdown of each of our top 30 films we call our Pantheon films – the movies we love,” Kirkham tells us “As we say, these are movies we could be stranded on a desert island with and never tire of watching. This pod is geared more to personal taste than to true film, but there usually more than a few film classics on both our lists, which we update every other year,”Kirkham adds

Don’t forget to stay connected with Popcorn N Roses on FB, add them as your film community friend too. Splash into some new tunes this summer and connect with Subject: Cinema.
