Following the murder of their father, the Locke family moves to the East Coast to an old New England mansion in Lovecraft, MA. Welcome to Lovecraft is the first story arc of the horror comic book metaseries Locke & Key, written in 2008 by native Mainer, Joe Hill, Stephen King’s son.

“In the largest possible sense, Locke & Key is the story of a New England mansion filled with impossible keys,” Joe Hill tells MTV Geek. “Each key has a unique power which is usually switched on by opening a particular door. The oldest of all the keys, the Omega Key, opens something called the Black Door, located in the caves below the house. And this is a door that’s better off left shut. There’s something very bad on the other side”.

Three years later, the key is still opening doors. Acclaimed filmmaker Steven Spielberg has teamed up with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci for the television adaptation of “Locke & Key”. Fox Broadcasting has given “Locke & Key” a 13-episode commitment and they are filming the pilot right now. Some of the stars attached to the project include pop singer Jessie McCartney, Sara Bolger and the sexy Nick Stahl.

Even though the comic book is set in Lovecraf, MA, and the TV series will retain a New England setting, shooting is taking place in Pittsburgh, Penn. Boo!

Ironically, 30 years ago, Joe Hill had a brief acting career and was in Creepshow , a flick about a horror comic which filmed in Pittsburgh. He is now back in Pittsburgh filming his own horror comic made TV series “Locke & Key”.

With a rumored summer run, perhaps season 2 will require real New England backdrops. And maybe eventually, Hill, like his Dad, will opt for Hollywood East.  Don’t forget to like the “Locke & Key” FB page.
