Jay Leno the Andover native will return to Boston this week to promote his new show on NBC. The Emerson graduate will perform at the Cutler Majestic Theatre, August 11 at 4 p.m. Emerson staff and alumni have been granted VIP status to get a ticket. Leno will debuting his upcoming show to air this fall at 10 p.m.

Although Leno is coming to Boston to promote his fall show to Emerson alumni, staff and friends, Boston affiliate, WHDH-TV, will not be airing the talk show host/actor’s new show. WHDH-TV is opting to air an hour-long local newscast at 10 p.m., instead.

Ed Ansin, who owns WHDH-TV’s parent company, told The Boston Globe he did not believe Leno’s new show would be successful. He said the station would do better financially with a news show that competes with Fox-affiliated WFXT-TV’s highly rated 10 p.m. newscast.
