Local film production company, Rough Water Films, along with local filmmaker Will Simmons are taking home awards from some of the top film festivals in Hollywood thanks to their recent collaboration on science fiction short project.
Source is a story that takes place a century after a nuclear holocaust, with humanity drifting towards certain annihilation. The discovery of an infinite energy source ignites hope for the future, but its whereabouts are shrouded in secrecy and controlled by power-hungry individuals. After an enslaved mercenary uncovers the truth about the energy source, he must decide whether to fight for his own survival or make the ultimate sacrifice for the greater good. The film stars local actors Jonathan Thomson, Anthony Goes, and Evalena Marie. It was completed over 14 days, and was primarily shot in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Source first premiered at the Hollywood Film Festival in California. The film went on to win awards for its cinematography and best Science Fiction Short from the SoCal Film Festival and the First Glance Film Festival. The filmmakers now have their sights set on a homecoming by submitting Source to several competitions throughout New England. By turning the focus on these festivals, Rough Water Films hopes to showcase the project to audiences in their home state, including the friends and family of the local cast and crew.
Rough Water Films LLC, is a local production company based out of Boston, which has produced several short films, commercials, and music videos. They are currently in developing several projects including a feature film set during the Civil War, a vigilante short film series, and a documentary on the American Revolution.
