On January 19, the newest season of “American Idol” debuted with almost an entirely new judging panel. New judges Jennifer Lopez and Massachusetts resident Steven Tyler of Aerosmith joined veteran judge Randy Jackson on a successful season debut that held strong for its time slot in its first 2 weeks, but was still down significantly from the previous season premiere.

By all accounts, Tyler was well-received by “AI” fans, as he was one of the top Twitter topics the following day, with comments generally being favorable towards the aging rock star in his new role. Tyler received an honorary degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston in June of 2003, and he is currently living in Marshfield, Massachusetts.

Since the departure of Simon Cowell and single season judge Ellen DeGeneres, Maine resident Kara DioGuardi was also let go by the Fox show following last season. She currently is getting ready to take a seat on the judging panel of a new Bravo reality series, “Platinum Hit,” which will be hosted by fellow songwriter, pop star Jewel, who recently announced she is pregnant with her first child. The competition will follow aspiring songwriters through challenges that require them to write songs to various prompts and themes under a deadline.
