New England independent filmmakers Derek Brigham and Leo Lunser’s first feature film, Altering Conclusions, is now out on DVD. The film was shot mostly in Maine and the surrounding New England area.
Deemed an “edgy crime thriller,” Altering Conclusions centers on a sadistic crime boss, one of his assassins and his target; a corrupt mayor. The film “weaves a tale of violence and innocence.” Watch the trailer below.
Funded mostly out of pocket and “trying to get something for nothing,” Altering Conclusions was Brigham and Lunser’s first attempt at a feature length film and took three years to complete. Although they did not have a hard time finding actors, Brigham and Lunser found it to be difficult to secure some locations. Like many independent filmmakers, they encountered liability and cost issues for some of their locations, but still found New England to be “welcoming” to their production.
Brigham notes that through the making of this film they learned a lot. He remarked that it is especially important for filmmakers to “know [their] limit and be practical,” while Lunser says that it is important for aspiring filmmakers to “be patient [and] believe in yourself” because as Brigham points out, “it’s the world’s job to doubt you.”
Up next, the filmmakers are looking to hone their skills and showcase their style on a few smaller scale projects. They plan to shoot three short films that they describe as “really distinct” and “satirical” this summer.
