Last month, the Connecticut Post reported on a new television series for cable’s Showtime being shot in Stamford, Connecticut. “The Big C”, starring Laura Linney from The Truman Show, is filming 13 episodes for its very first season around the shoreline town. While a good portion of the filming will utilize the 62,000 square-foot production studio at the Connecticut Film Center, a number of outdoor locations around town will be used as well. The Salt Water Grill, the Knights of Columbus, and Verplank Avenue in the Shippan section are just a few of the neighborhoods location scouts have selected for filming scenes, which will help contribute to the local economy.
The show follows Linney’s character, Cathy, the suburban wife and mother of young children, who is diagnosed with a terminal form of cancer, changing the course of her life. Cynthia Nixon, seen most recently in the Sex and the City 2 movie, will also be featured prominently on the show as a long-lost college roommate Cathy’s. Oliver Platt plays Linney’s husband. Academy award nominated star of Precious, Gabourey Sidibe, will play one of Linney’s students. “The Big C” is set to premiere on Monday, August 16th at 10:30PM on Showtime.
