It’s Fall in New England and that can only mean one thing – giant pumpkin contests, pig races, rodeo and rides, and apple pie! The Topsfield Fair kicks off today with all this as well as new acts, bigger issues and even some celebrities.
Starting on October 2nd and running until the 12th, the Topsfield Fair in Topsfield, MA is addressing the issue of environmental awareness and leading by example. This year’s theme, “Go Green With Us,” highlights environmentally friendly practices, many of which the fair had already been implementing years before. In addition to separating cardboard, cans, and bottles for recycling, the fair exports its food waste to Brick Farm in Hamilton to be turned into compost, which is then handed out in small bags at the Green Pavilion at the next year’s fair. This year the Green Pavilion will be hosting 15 eco-friendly companies and other organizations that will feature recycling practices of the fair and provide information and activities to educate visitors about how to help the environment.
Along with the fair’s annual favorites, two celebrity events include country singer and actress Leann Rimes, who will be performing in the arena on October 10th at 6 p.m. and animal expert and television show host Jeff Corwin, who will be giving a live talk on conservation efforts and environmentally conscious practices on Saturday, October 10th at 11 a.m.
