About ten-years ago, a South Shore kid named Chuck Slavin arrived in Hollywood, CA moments after graduating from high school. “It was always a dream of mine to be an actor,” Chuck tells HEC. Although Slavin’s stay in LA was short, it ended with a bang landing some TV time on the show, “Six Feet Under”.
Today, Slavin doesn’t need to look for work on the West coast because the hot to trot actor is working steadily right here in Hollywood East even hanging upside down for his first SAG commercial this year. “I couldn’t be happier with where I am at,” he tells us. Right now Slavin is working on the new ABC series “Body of Proof” starring Dana Delany as a reoccurring medical examiner.
He’s also been standing in for Geoffrey Arend who plays Ethan Gross on “Body of Proof”. “He’s probably one of the funniest actors I have ever stood-in for,” Slavin tells us. BOP is wrapping up shop this month and a Spring premiere awaits. “It has been a lot of fun. I hope they come back to the area to shoot season 2,” Slavin adds. And we do too.
The gigs don’t stop there for Slavin. “Between a few features, including David Garfield’s The Rude, the Mad & the Funny, some work on studio projects, and commercial work for Ballot Question 1, I also engaged myself heavily in the political arena this year, endorsing and organizing for newly elected State Representative Steven Howitt,” Slavin tells us. “Working on the Howitt campaign was a great experience for me. I have been an advocate for the film industry for some time; it was fascinating to be a part of the process.”
A few months back Slavin was interviewed by his hometown paper, The Pembroke Express. That day Slavin’s son’s school teacher told them about their Dad. “On the ride home, my oldest son told me that I was in the paper today because I am a “movie star,” he smiled. “That’s all that matters to me is that my son’s are rooting for me.”
When Slavin first hit the industry scene, he was cautioned not to mention his personal life. But in twenty ten, he no longer fears the need to keep his biggest accomplishments hushed, “My children mean the world to me”.
It’s clear that Slavin’s true fears don’t lie within the rollercoaster ride of this biz. “People will either like you or not, resent you or cheer you, you can’t take either extreme to heart; just know your own path,” Slavin tells us. Slavin has paved his own way through the bumps and bruises of Hollywood East. “Get yourself out there and network. Be prepared for lots of rejection but don’t let it deter your dream,” he adds.
