20th Century Fox recently announced that Sean Hayes, most well-known for his work on the hit TV show “Will and Grace,” will be joining the cast of the new Farrelly Brothers remake of the classic comedic trio, The Three Stooges. The film which is set to start filming in Georgia later this month, will co-star Will Sasso, as Curly, with Hayes filling the role of Larry. Moe is still yet to be cast.
This film has been a long time in the making with big names like Jim Carrey, Benicio Del Toro, and Sean Penn once attached to the project, but dropping out later as the picture seemed to get put on a permanent hold. The movie was also at one time rumored to possibly be filming in Rhode Island, the home state of the Farrelly brothers, as is often the case for many of their projects. Instead, the project will be commencing in Georgia, another state with generous tax incentives available for movie-makers.
Despite the southern local, C.P. Casting is still handling the casting of the film, and recently put a call out for 9-13 year old boys who are 4’7” to 5’0” tall to play a young Curly Howard. Boys should be able to “imitate, embody, and characterize” the iconic slapstick comedian. The casting will be taking place this Sunday, April 17, from 10AM to 3PM at the (seriously) Curley Community Center in South Boston. A copy of the audition script can be found at CP Casting.com. Rhode Island’s boys are back. The Farrelly Brothers‘ latest film, Hall Pass topped the box office last week, grossing $13,535,374 in its first weekend. The film upset predicted box office topper, Gnomeo and Juliet, putting the Farrelly directed comedy in first.
Hall Pass, starring Owen Wilson and “Saturday Night Live’s” Jason Sudekis as two men granted a week off from their marriages by their wives, is Peter and Bobby Farrelly’s first film since 2007′s Heartbreak Kid. The film boasts other big names like Christina Applegate and “The Office” star Jenna Fischer as the men’s restless wives, as well as appearances by Joy Behar and Alyssa Milano.
Like most of the brothers’ films, Hall Pass is set in New England, although it was shot in Georgia. The Rhode Island natvies’ next film is a Three Stooges reboot, rumored to star Sean Penn, Jim Carrey and Benicio del Toro as the goofy trio.
Valentine’s Day is here and regardless of whether you like the holiday, it still gives you the perfect excuse to enjoy a romantic comedy or two.
There are a couple of romantic comedies at the box office this weekend (like the star-studded Valentine’s Day or last week’s number one film at the box office, Dear John. If you’re looking for a lovely night at home, however, why not try one of these classic romance flics that were filmed right here in Hollywood East?
Perfect for sports fans who want to relive the Red Sox’s historic 2004 World Series win while also getting a good dose of romance. Made by Rhode Island natives Kevin and Bobby Farrelly, this movie deals with the sacrifices a Boston Red Sox super fan (Jimmy Fallon) has to make in order to be with his new girlfriend (Drew Barrymore).
Best for those who want to forget about their boyfriend (or lack thereof) on Valentine’s Day, last year’s Bride Wars (filmed in Massachusetts) features Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway fighting over everything from their wedding date to their dress.
High-minded couples or fans of quirk will dig this 2009 movie filmed in Connecticut starring Maya Rudolph and Massachusetts native John Krasinski. The film chronicles a thirtysomething couple searching for a new home where they can raise their new child.
Another Farrelly brothers movie on the list, this 1998 film shot in Rhode Island is best for those who enjoy dark and gross out humor. This film follows Ted (played by Ben Stiller), a onetime geek in high school, who tries to reunite with his old prom date, Mary (Cameron Diaz). The only problem is that everyone else she meets wants to date her too.
Some honorable mentions include last year’s The Proposal (filmed in Massachusetts), 27 Dresses (made in Rhode Island) and Mr. Deeds (Connecticut). What’s you favorite Hollywood East romance flic?
The Rhode Island born filmmakers, Bobby and Peter Farrelly are already in pre-production for their big-screen re-make of The Three Stooges, but one of their stars has already stepped out. Last week, the Farrellys’ would-be Larry, Sean Penn, announced he’s dropping out of the project, leaving only Jim Carrey as Curly and Benicio Del Torro as Moe. Penn sited “family issues” as the reason for his departure from this and another upcoming project, leaving the Farrellys’ in search of a new 3rd Stooge.
With filming set to occur in Rhode Island and Massachusetts starting this August, the rumor mill has already started churning as to who could replace Penn in the role. Among the names mentioned are Paul Giamatti and Johnny Depp, though these rumblings are merely that since Penn’s announcement only came late last week. Re-casting the role might push filming back to later in the fall. Meanwhile, the Farrellys film funniness is not new to the New England area, their 2005 hit, Fever Pitch, starring Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon, was filmed entirely in the Boston area, and featured the real life Boston Red Sox team.
