Maine resident Kara DioGuardi is judging a new Folgers Jingle Contest for songwriters and singers to put their spin on the famous Folgers Coffee commercial jingle. The contest, which officially kicked off on January 18th and ends March 1st.

The winner of the contest will receive $25,000, the chance to appear in a Folgers Coffee commercial, as well as a special mentoring session with DioGuardi.

Singers/songwriters and all who enter are asked to compose their own original version of the Folgers Coffee Jingle, including the iconic lyrics “The Best Part of Wakin’ Up is Folgers in Your Cup.” These lyrics, and the distinctive melody they are sung in are supplied as part of the Tool Kit available on their website for all entrants to download in order to help them complete their submission. From the body of submissions, ten semifinalists will be chosen by a panel of judges and featured on the Folgers website for public voting between March 31st, 2011 and April 25th, 2011. All entries will be judged on the following criteria:

• Creativity/Originality

• Musical Performance

• Adherence to Creative Assignment

From there, the top five performers will be flown to New York City to compete in a live Grand-Prize audition for a chance to win the top prize. The Grand-Prize Winner will be determined based on:

• Musical Performance

• Stage Presence

• Creativity/Originality

DioGuardi has been keeping busy lately, since leaving her judging gig on “American Idol”, she’s been tapped to be lead judge on “Going Platinum”, a new song-writing competition on the Bravo cable network co-starring pop-singer/songwriter Jewel. No word yet on when the show will air.

Maine resident Kara DioGuardi is coming back to television as the lead judge on “Going Platinum”, a new song-writing competition on the Bravo cable network.

In less than two months since being asked not to return to judge the perennial Fox hit, “American Idol”, DioGuardi has landed on her feet, securing a role on a show that will start taping this month, and debut sometime early next year.

The song-writer commented via People magazine:

“Hit songs are the backbone of the music industry, and as a publisher, nothing excites me more than finding new songwriting talent,” DioGuardi says. “I am happy to be a part of a show that helps up and coming songwriters pursue their dreams, while giving the public a look into the creative process.”

The show will be hosted by singer/songwriter Jewel, who will also help judge the competition. 12 musicians will compete by taking part in challenges to write music and lyrics for different genres, from hip-hop to love songs to dance tracks. The eventual winner will receive a $100,000 prize, as well as a recording contract and a music-publishing deal.
