This Sunday, March 6th, where else would you rather be then an industry SHINDIG mingling with Hollywood East!
This month, the Shindig organizers added more zest to the already hip event and hooked up with the Improv Asylum to kick off an early spring fling. Doors open at 8 pm, there is a $15 cover charge and the Asylum is located on Hanover Street in Boston’s North End.
“The Filmmakers Shindig is on a collision course with Improv Asylum, and this Sunday all FILM is gonna break loose,” co- creator Chuck Slavin tells HEC. “The Shindig will bring together the best and brightest in the New England Film community in a bi-monthly opportunity to network with active members of the film community.
“Chuck Slavin and I came up with the idea for the event when we were sitting in holding as extras on a set,” Co-founder Jenna Sullivan aka Jenna Lunarno tells HEC. “We had been talking about ways to network and ways to benefit the indie filmmaking community in the area. Chuck thought it would be an awesome idea to do a film industry mixer. A few weeks later I booked our first venue.”
The fashionable event has been in action for the last few years and has steadily been growing. The first Shindig drew 54 people. “A pretty good turn out for the first time event,” Sullivan adds. The Shindig now brings in crowds with bright lights. These parties are certainly not lame or stuffy so don’t be nervous if it’s your first time. “People are there to find work and people are there to find workers,” Sullivan tells us.
“We wanted it to be something more than just a mixer,” Sullivan tells us. “So we got a personality going for the do, recruiting professional photographers, local bands and D.J.’s. We put out a call for local work to display during the party. We held it at a bar. It’s a place for people to come and mingle and find people to work with, win prizes, listen to good music and have a good time”. Rumor has it DJ Dan will be spinning some film and television tracks as you let loose with people in the biz. Could networking be any easier than this?
