Is Grease still the one that you want?  If so, start working on your hand jive, because the National Tour of Grease is in Boston for a five-day run.

The show will run from April 27- May 1 at the Citi Performing Arts Center’s Wang Theatre.  The Kathleen Marshall, Tony nominated revival opened on Broadway in August, 2007 and ran for 554 performances.  Tickets for the Boston shows start at just $28.

The original cast of the 1978 film won’t be onstage this time, but they had some interesting New England connections.  The original Danny Zuko, John Travolta owns a house in Maine and the original Rizzo, Stockard Channing lived in Connecticut and started her career with the Theatre Company of Boston.

Part-time Maine-r John Travolta Stars in New Action Flick

Posted on 12 Feb 2010 at 3:00am

Part-time Maine-r John Travolta’s latest movie, From Paris with Love, hit theaters on Friday. Co-starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers of “The Tudors” fame, the action flick follows the story of two undercover CIA operatives attempting to stop a terrorist crime ring in the city of love. Though filmed entirely in the French capital, Travolta has spent more time in recent years in the New England area, as in addition to living part time on the island of Isleboro, part of the Bar Harbor area of Maine, his 2009 release, Old Dogs, was filmed throughout parts of Connecticut. Kirstie Alley, a fellow scientologist, and Travolta’s co-star in the Look Who’s Talking films, also has a home in ME, as well as actor Chris O’Donnell.

No doubt preferred by some celebrities for its natural beauty, and far removed from the paparazzi-laden LA or New York area, Travolta’s presence has at times been jarring for his neighbors in Maine. The Knox County Regional Airport is regularly used by the Pulp Fiction star as the location where he docks his plane, thanks to its relative proximity to his home there. Unfortunately, this aspect of the glamorous movie star life has not been well-received, as it seems at times, Travolta has disregarded local noise curfews put in place out of respect for the community.

Old Dogs Filmed in CT Comes to Theaters

Posted on 18 Nov 2009 at 5:41am

The new John Travolta movie, Old Dogs, is set to be released in theaters on November 25. As Bernie Mac’s final film, it was originally going to be released April 10, 2009, but was postponed till this month because of his death.

Besides a plethora of stars in the cast, including Robin Williams, Matt Dillon, Rita Wilson, and Travolta’s wife and daughter, Kelly Preston and Ella Bleu, the movie used a variety of filming locations. Travolta, who recently opened up about the loss of his son Jett, often spends time with family at his vacation home in Maine’s Penobscot Bay. In fact, he spent time in Connecticut, where much of the film was shot. Locations include Greenwich, Norwalk, Redding, and Stamford, as well as the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport. The Disney movie follows the story of:

Two best friends — one unlucky-in-love divorcee and the other a fun-loving bachelor — have their lives turned upside down when they’re unexpectedly charged with the care of 7-year-old twins while on the verge of the biggest business deal of their lives. The not-so-kid-savvy bachelors stumble in their efforts to take care of the twins, leading to one debacle after another, and perhaps to a new-found understanding of what’s really important in life.

The comedy also costars Seth Green and Lori Loughlin, also know as Aunt Becky from “Full House” fame. Check out the trailer here:
