Once again, it was a big year in Hollywood East, as stars of both the big and little screens made their way through the area, working on projects. Stars who have connections to the New England area also played a big part in the entertainment scene, winning awards and starring in their own projects that only further helped prove that Hollywood East is a talent-laden land. Let’s take a look back at the year that was.
Current reigning queen of pop, the Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga, made a much heralded appearance in Cambridge to help launch her Born This Way Foundation, in conjunction with Harvard University
In television the Kardashians came to Boston for a bit, and NBC’s “Smash” shot their season 1 finale here. New England born or educated stars like Barbara Walters, Bronson Pinchot, and Maria Menounos made their own headlines. Menounos in particular had a lot going on–appearing in a bikini in Times Square after losing a bet, then later competing on “Dancing with the Stars,” and celebrating her 34th birthday in Hollywood.
Ben Affleck finally joined Facebook, and Argo was released this fall to critical acclaim.
We talked to folks like writer/actor Adriano Masciarelli, musician Justin Beech, and other talented stars from around our area who are working on exciting projects in entertainment.
A plethora of films shot in Hollywood East this summer, including Labor Day, Grown Ups 2, The Heat, and The Way Way Back.
Overall, it was yet another exciting year here at HEC, with lots more already being lined up for 2013. Stay tuned!
If you’ve been Keeping up with the Kardashians, then you know that this past week’s episode features a portion of the clan making a trip to Boston for some appearances around town, and ended up featuring a number of spots around the city in the process.
Family matriarch Kris Jenner, along with her husband Bruce, and their daughter Khloe Kardashian Odom, made the six hour flight from California to Beantown in order to appear at the the Boston Cable Show, which was held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in mid May. Though Kim Kardashian was originally schedule to appear, a work conflict arose, and sister Khloe made the trip in her stead. The family stayed at the Boston Harbor Hotel, and the girls were seen lunching at the Rowes Wharf Sea Grille while Bruce Jenner attended an autograph signing session.
“Ever have clam chowder in Boston?” asked Kris to daughter Khloe. “That’s why they call it Boston clam chowder.”
Late that evening, the group went for a night out at Gypsy Bar, a nightclub downtown where Kim has made a few personal appearances in the past.
Several pickup shots of the downtown area of Boston were shown throughout the episode, including scenes of Copley Square and Back Bay and the Public Garden, though the weather appeared to be grey and rainy on the days the episode was shot.
Reality stars have been invading the Hub this month, with shows filming in almost every neighborhood around town. Further solidifying Boston’s status as a major player in the television industry, earlier this week, the Boston Cable Show was held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. The expo kicked off on Sunday, May 20th and is concluding later today.
The event featured exhibitors from all the major cable networks and channels, including the Oprah Winfrey Network, offering previews of new shows and technologies, informative talks, and plenty of free samples and swag. Chris Matthews, host of MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews”
Erin Burnett, chief business and economics correspondent for CNN, Julia Boorstin, media and entertainment reporter for CNBC, John King, chief national correspondent for CNN, Piers Morgan, host of “Piers Morgan Tonight.” and Maria Elena Salinas, co-anchor of “Noticiero Univision,” are just a few of the famous faces that made appearances, signed autographs, and held talks.
Even a number of high profile reality stars attended the 5 day event, including Kris and Bruce Jenner and Khloe Kardashian Odom, from “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” Mark Cuban from ABC’s “Shark Tank,” ESPN anchor Terry Francona, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, and members of the cast of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey.”
The Kardashian clan, never a group to go anywhere without cameras in tow, reportedly spent some time in the Hub outside of the conference, filming scenes for their popular E show that, according to Bruce Jenner, involved the usual hijinks and something about a duck. Could the Kardashians have commandeered one of our city’s infamous Duck Boats? Did mama Kris Jenner pose for a cute portrait with the “Make Way for the Ducklings” statues in the Public Garden? Perhaps we’ll find out in the upcoming season!
