Video killed the radio star, and now satellite, The Harbor 101.7 has washed WFNX-FM out to sea. WFNX has been riding the entertainment waves for 29 years and has been swept up in the current. FNX-FM was the last independently owned Boston station that swaggered new indie beats.
It was in 1983, when the Lynn based WFNX shocked the air with new electricity. The first track lit was The Cure, “Let’s Go to Bed”. As The Cure’s single woke a new alternative. New England was jonesing to be altered by FNX. On 7/20/12 @ 7 p.m. FNX crashed tuning the same single.
It was back in May when the signal signed a deal with Clear Channel Media for $14.5 million. This new Boston Harbor “play anything” radio is Clear Channel’s fifth station in the Greater Boston area.
The shift leaves Boston without a indie station to turn up. Just more poppy hits from the last four decades will clog our commute. The Harbor will be sailing the summer commercial-free. While FNX flips a new signal with a web career!
Our dial has a void. It really hasn’t set-in so let’s set this in instead. To all the loyal listeners that want to continue to drive with FNX Boston edge entertainment. WFNX is streaming live right now at WFNX.com! HEC has been hitchhiking there all day.
The net caught FNX and the station moves on! Download the free mobile app now! Sure, Pandora will keep the music spinning, but FNX strums a different string with us New England fans. Keep WFNX breathing by liking it on FB too. We HEART WFNX!
