According to an August 24 post on The Playlist, scouts for The Social Network have recently been scouring Boston and Cambridge for potential filming locations. Based on the founding of Facebook, The Social Network will hit Boston for more than just the tax incentives; the concept of Facebook was in fact born in a Harvard dorm.
With production scheduled to begin next month, the project is already well underway. Aaron Sorkin (A Few Good Men, “The West Wing”, Charlie Wilson’s War) adapted the script from Ben Mezrich’s The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, and Columbia Pictures is in “advanced talks” with David Fincher (Fight Club, Panic Room, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) to direct. Kevin Spacey will produce alongside Dana Brunetti and Scott Rudin.
An August 22 post on End of Show reports that the film is currently backed by a $47 million budget.

According to an August 30 article on Actress Archives, “Lost” actress Maggie Grace has entered into negotiations to star in James Mangold’s made-in-Massachusetts flick Wichita, alongside the likes of Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. The Hollywood Reporter stated that Grace is slotted to play Diaz’s soon-to-be-married sister. Like the bride-to-be, Wichita will undergo a name change soon; keep an eye out for the project’s new title.
But you don’t need a famous last name to score a role in Wichita; Boston Casting’s e-mail on August 28 stated the following: “We are looking for Mothers to work with their babies as extras on the film Wichita. Job starts shooting Sept. 15th and shoots through to Thanksgiving. We are SPECIFICALLY looking for young moms with children 0-2. If interested, please email photo of mom and baby to [email protected], please be sure to include your contact information.”
Stage moms rejoice.
Homeboy actor, Ben Affleck, gears up for his second Boston directing debut of The Town, a movie based on Chuck Hogan’s novel The Prince of Theives. Affleck also co-wrote the screen play with Hogan and Peter Craig. The movie involves romance, comedy and thriller effects. A love triangle between the beautiful bank manager, the bold FBI agent and the ugly con man. The Town will be filmed in and around Charlestown, MA starting in September with possible locations involving the North End and Fenway Park which was previously reported on Loaded Gun.
The Town has an all star cast including the lovely Rebecca Hall (Bank Manager) best known for her Golden Globe in Vicky Christina Barcelona, the clean cut Joe Hamm (FBI Agent) who just finished up filming “Mad Men” also filmed in Boston, and the one man band director/writer/actor Ben Affleck who will be co-staring as the “criminal career minded” con man. Affleck is best known for his work in Good Will Hunting, his public romance with Jennifer Lopez, and directing Gone Baby Gone which put him on the map as a talented director. Affleck took some time off after his flops of Gigli and Daredevil but appears to have made full recovery acting, writing and directing all this year. Affleck is set to release Mike Judge’s comedy Extract and just finished shooting The Company Men.
Affleck has been seen around Bean-town sporting his Red Sox cap with his wife Jennifer Garner and their two little girls Violet and Seraphina. One thing we have to say, Affleck really has been bringing in revenue to his home town, Boston. Casting Calls have been posted for this upcoming film.
