Maria Menounos Parties It Up

Posted on 19 Jun 2012 at 6:44pm

Medford maiden Maria Menounos celebrated her 34th birthday over the weekend, and the brunette beauty didn’t hold back! The Hawaiian luau themed event had the lovely miss sporting a teeny weeny yellow bikini and flower print shorts, while also wearing a lei and even a giant live snake around her neck at times throughout the raucous evening. Some of the famous faces who came out to celebrate the “Extra” host included Donald Trump, Michael Chiklis, and Nia Vardalos. Actor Mel Gibson took the birthday girl for a spin around the dance floor, as did her former “Dancing with the Stars” partner Derek Hough.

The party was held outdoors at her place in Encino and featured fire dancers, hula girls, and even exotic animals, which included monkeys. Her actual birthday was June 8th.

The bubbly host also recently made headlines for her appearance on the Howard Stern Sirius Radio show, where she opened up about her past experiences with sexual abuse. As a teenager, Menounos said she was assaulted by a doctor. She went to the doctor for a throat issue and was told to change into a hospital gown, who then molested Menounos while her boyfriend sat outside in the waiting room. Menounos now says she brings her boyfriend of fourteen years, Kevin Undergaro, with her to the examination room every time.

Gibson Stars in “Edge of Darkness”

Posted on 10 Jan 2010 at 5:54am

Filmed in Boston and the surrounding area, Edge of Darkness features the return of Mel Gibson to his forgotten place in front of the camera.  From Martin Campbell, the director of Casino Royale, comes a Boston-set thriller based on a 1985 police miniseries that originally aired on the BBC.  On board with the adaptation is screenwriter William Monahan, the Boston native and Oscar winner who helped bring us The Departed.

Gibson plays Thomas Craven, a homicide detective who seeks to uncover the mysteries behind his daughter’s death and unveil secrets he could never have prepared for.  Along the way he will become entangled with corporate and government conspiracies, struggle alongside a CIA operative (played by Ray Winstone), and become aware that his daughter was not exactly who he thought she was.

Not since Signs in 2002 has Gibson accepted a leading role, and while his acting career may have been dwarfed by some off screen drama, he has a hefty list of awards and nominations under his belt for that very thing.  He is certainly not a man new to a movie set, and the choice to revisit acting for this project leaves a lot of people curious.  Is there something new we haven’t seen before with Edge of Darkness?  Does this mark the long-lasting and triumphant return of Mel Gibson as an actor?  We’ll have to wait and see.  Edge of Darkness opens nationwide on January 29th.
