Affairs in Southie

Affairs in Southie

Posted on 13 Sep 2012 at 3:39pm

In ‘God’s Country’ where parallel parking, any which way is a requirement, and double parking is encouraged. It’s now ticketing lots of reality. So let’s tow you with some fall affairs.

Mitt Romney cheating in Southie? According to one billboard. Tuesday morning, Romney had to be just as shocked as commuters driving down Dorchester Ave to see an ad with Mitt gesturing “shhhh”, alongside the catch, “If cheating on your taxes is OK… so is AshleyMadison.com”, a site that encourages having an affair because life is short. The short lived billboard had its affair, and has been removed.

Now that’s reality, and this is Southie reality television. It was a few months back when Hollywood filmmakers were sniffing the streets shooting up premises for a Southie break-in. Six shows were rumored, four stayed afloat, and one is slotted for a fall premiere!

TLC has a fall date with “Southie Pride” that will tangle viewers with five South Boston women in five Southie family homes. The lens will follow these women as they struggle to make a better life for their family. Stay tuned for more Boston reality too. “Southie Rules” is still pumping, “The Teamsters” were spotted shooting footage in Charlestown back in June, and “Boston Blue” is set for a 2013 fall date.

As affairs continue to trend into the last weekend of summer twenty-twelve. Let’s take it to East Broadway street, and fall into a happening festival fling. The forecast couldn’t be any more tempting.

This Saturday, September 15th, Southie shuts down for the 13th Annual South Boston Street Festival who is kissing us with some luck all day. The shin-dig drives over 10,000 fest goers between I and L. It starts at 11a.m and cuts us off at 6 p.m.. That’s right. Last call not only on the street, but in all the bars. Parking will be parking so get here early and start circling.

With over 100 local business shinning bright, restaurants rolling, and live action.  South Boston is the perfect place to take up affairs this Saturday afternoon. Two stages will be jiving with entertainment and the street will be filled with vendors and treats. One stage will be stirring up some summer heat with the sexy Greg Luttrell & his house band and the other stage with  Thomas Park who will be cooling you off with some cover band tunes. No Southie fest could be complete without Peggy Wood’s School of Irish Step Dance skipping the street.

The entertainment is endless as are the refreshments. Cranberry Café, Porto Bello, The Playwright, The Sausage Guy, Sal’s and The Paramount are just a few of the restaurants participating. Check out the fest website for a full schedule of events. Go South Boston!

Southie Shoots Up a New Reality Show

Southie Shoots Up a New Reality Show

Posted on 08 May 2012 at 11:49pm

In ‘God’s Country’ where double parking is not only allowed but encouraged. Its putting its hazards on yet again for some new bright lights. There has been a lot smack about a Southie reality show to a Whitey Bulger flick since the ‘God Father’ was captured last June.

Hollywood producers to filmmakers unknown have been sniffing out the streets for months like the DEA is now. South Boston has been blitzing with crews. Maybe even up to six shows have shot up premises for a Southie break-in. But it’s official, A&E is heading to City Point to shoot “Southie Rules”, according to Variety.

It’s no secret that Powderhouse Productions continues to brighten up Hollywood East. So when ‘the house’ ordered a reality series with Magilla Entertainment that follows a Southie family who battles the changes to a more affluent time here in Southie since the “yuppies” have settled in, and the average cost of living that once was is no longer RELATIVE. A&E had to pick up. It’s reality!

The cable network is known for truthful script telling and how stories originate. “Southie Rules” will be nothing like a Housewives spinoff.  Powderhouse, Tug Yourgrau, an executive producer of the new reality flick has always put his best foot forward to help make Massachusetts stomp.  It was a year ago, he stood tall in front of the MOTT Committee and remarkably linked the benefits that Powderhouse has experienced as a result of the film and tax credit, and the desirability of the State. Clearly it’s rollin.

The “Southie Rules” series will be true to its neighborhood pride as they conquer personal struggles while trying to stay afloat with the time. A&E has not announced a premiere date.

Wichita Knight and Day on Location

Posted on 22 Oct 2009 at 4:00am

Tom Cruise‘s Untitled Wichita Project has recently been renamed Knight and Day. The action comedy screenplay, co-written by James Mangold and Scott Frank (Marley & Me, Minority Report), follows a fugitive couple–Cruise and Cameron Diaz–on a glamorous, yet deadly adventure around the globe. Cruise and Diaz will share the screen with Wilton, CT native Paul Dano in the role of an eccentric genius behind a revolutionary technology.

Directed by Mangold (Walk the Line; Girl, Interrupted), the film production was spotted on the streets of Charlestown and South Boston just last weekend. Previous filming locations include the Worcester airport, Bridgewater and Somerville. While there has been talk of production in Woburn, sources reveal that the Commerce Way outpost is merely a storage station rather than a film set.

According to an October 13 press release, Knight and Day will also film in less local locales, including Austria, Spain, and the tropics. The Twentieth Century Fox/ New Regency co-production is scheduled to hit theaters on July 2, 2010.
