There are few films that can top or even match the impact that the Star Wars series has had on both popular culture and the world. With the combination of film direction by George Lucas and musical composition by John Williams, the films broke industry standards and set new heights for motion picture production while simultaneously creating a new cult culture that still holds the same, if not more, cultural significance that it did when the films were first released. Today, Lucas and Williams are giving Star Wars fans the opportunity to re-live that initial magic that began in a galaxy far, far away.
Star Wars, In Concert is a national concert series that combines Williams’ major compositions into a two-hour long performance that corresponds to a compilation of some of the most memorable scenes in the Star Wars series. Both the music and the videos have been compiled by Lucas and Williams themselves and present the Star Wars films in a new and different perspective. The video will be projected onto a specially constructed LED screen, one of the largest screens to be taken on tour, accompanied by a live orchestra directed by Dirk Brosse. Anthony Daniels, who played C-3PO in all of the Star Wars films- the only actor to be featured in all six productions, will narrate the performance.
In addition to the actual musical performance, Star Wars, In Concert will feature a traveling exhibit with some of the most recognizable props and costumes from the six movies. Many of the items on display have been taken from the George Lucas’ “Skywalker Ranch” in the Lucasfilm Archives, some of which have not been seen or showcased since their use in the actual films.
Star Wars, In Concert starts today in New England with its first stop in Bridgeport, CT followed by performances in Providence, RI, Manchester, NH and Boston. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster. For a full schedule of the show’s tour or more general information, visit the Star Wars, In Concert website.
