HGTV Comes to Beverly, MA

Posted on 04 Aug 2010 at 1:00am

HGTV’s “My First Place” is coming to Beverly, Mass., to follow some first-time house hunters. Execs at HGTV chose Boston and its surrounding towns for their diverse homebuyer potential and real estate variety. It will be the first time any Boston-area cities will be featured on the show. No other shows in any New England towns are currently in the works, however they may focus on New Hampshire in the future.

“My First Place” looks for expressive first-time buys who are excited to share their experience with viewers. The show highlights the trials and tribulations many people buying their first home experience. From home inspections to the final closing, this new show captures everything in between.

“We love expressive first-time buyers who are really excited about sharing the roller coaster ride of the home buying experience.  It can be a stressful process, and we seek out people who represent an endless variety of personal stories and situations that our viewers can relate to,” HGTV exec Min Lee told us. The Beverly episode, airing sometime early next year features a man from Peabody, MA looking to move closer to his family.

If you want to share your home buying experience or home renovation work with millions of people across the United States, find out how at the HGTV website.

“Rizzoli & Isles” Continues Tradition of TV Shows Set in Boston

Posted on 04 Jul 2010 at 1:00am

TNT’s newest crime drama, “Rizzoli & Isles,” is the latest television show to continue the long held tradition of being set in Boston.  This crime drama comes out later this year and centers around a Boston detective played by Angie Harmon and a medical examiner (Sasha Alexander) who work closely to solve crimes.

Currently, there are several other shows along with “Rizzoli & Isles” that are set in Boston.  In fact, Boston has been featured in shows so often, that there is even a Wikipedia page about it.  These include the latest installment of the Jesse Stone series, “Fringe,” and the recently premiered “Boston Med,” that delves into the goings on of three of Boston’s best hospitals – Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham Women’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital Boston.

Some recent well known Boston-set programs include the James Spader lawyer dramas “Boston Legal” and “The Practice,” “Ally McBeal” and “Crossing Jordan.”

Teens might remember that the main characters in programs like “Dawson’s Creek” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” attended college in Boston, while “Two Guys and a Girl” and “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” also took place there.

Of course you cannot mention Boston-based television shows without giving a nod to “Cheers,” the 1980s sitcom centering around a bar “where everybody knows your name.”  People from all over the world still come to Boston to visit the famous bar on Beacon street where all of the exteriors were filmed.

It is important to note that although all of these shows were set in Boston, most of them were taped in Los Angeles.  As disappointing as that might be for some New England filmmakers, it is still exciting to know that Boston is the home to so many favorite television shows.

Network in New Hampshire This Thursday!

Posted on 07 Jun 2010 at 1:00am

Looking to network in the film and TV industry? Head up to Concord, NH next Thursday (June 10th) for the New Hampshire Film & Television Office Meet-Up. The meet-up is an opportunity for members of the media production industry to network about current and upcoming projects and make connections with people in their field. Each member will have three minutes to introduce themselves (there will be a time limit!)

The meet-up is an extension of the quarterly Industry Roundtable series, which offers the same opportunity to make connections within the entertainment industry. Unlike the Roundtables, which are focused, business luncheons, the Meet-Ups are more attendee driven where you can talk about the work you are doing, your needs, and find out what other film industry folks have to offer.  The format of this evening meeting is casual and geared towards networking.  In any case, be ready with your pitch and don’t forget to bring your business cards!

The meet-up will be at the New Hampshire State Library at 5 p.m. and is free and open to the public. RSVP to Matthew Newton at [email protected] or 603-271-2220 to reserve a spot.

Go here for a list of local restaurants to enjoy while networking with your new acquaintances.
