Roxbury’s Bobby Brown Marries for 2nd Time

Posted on 24 Jun 2012 at 11:13am

It’s definitely his prerogative, so Bobby Brown, the ex-husband of Whitney Houston, and former Roxbury native, made headlines last week by marrying his music manager, Alicia Etheridge. Etheridge and Brown have been together since 2007, and got engaged in May of 2010, have one child together, Cassius, who was born on May 30, 2009.

The nuptials took place in Honolulu, Hawaii, just one day after Brown performed with his band, New Edition, on the big island last weekend. The 43 year old R&B star included some of his older children, Landon, 23, La’Princia, 22, and Bobby Jr., 19, as well as Cassius, 3, in the ceremony. Bobbi Kristina, his only child with Whitney Houston, was not present, as rumor has it she and her father are not presently on speaking terms.

The groom went casual in a crimson suit and Adidas sneakers that matched Cassius, who was the ring bearer. Brown was married to Whitney Houston for 14 tumultuous years and divorced in 2007. Houston passed away earlier this year from an accidental drowning. This is Brown’s second marriage and Etheridge’s first.

It is assumed that Brown both did not seek permission and made his own decision in regards to the matter.

And it’s not “Being Bobby Brown”. It’s called “The Houston Family Chronicles”. The Houston family has pumped a new pulse with Lifetime for a new reality series . We think if Whitney knew, she would turn over in her grave. There’s a reason why she didn’t agree to sign on for another season of “Being Bobby Brown”, seven years ago.

“The tragic loss of Whitney Houston left a void in the hearts of people all over the world, but certainly none more so than her

beloved family,” Rob Sharenow, executive vice president of programming at Lifetime Networks, said in a statement. “In this series, the multi-generations of the Houston family will bravely reveal their lives as they bond together to heal, love, and grow.”

Whitney’s mom Cissy, daughter Bobbie Kristina, sister-in-law and manager Pat Houston, Pat’s daughter Rayah and Whitney’s brother Gary will all be featured in the late Whitney Houston’s chronicles.

The Houston entourage will support and guide Bobbi Kristina through a lens as she faces the world without her Mother. I’m sure the cameras will help. Lifetime has ordered 10 hour-long episodes of “The Houston Family Chronicles” to premiere this year.

So where’s Roxbury native Bobby Brown? He’s making every little step he can to sign his own reality deal. Humpin Around networks,  “The Bad Boy of R&B: The Bobby Brown Story”. It’s Bobby’s prerogative! Reports say Bobby wants his estranged daughter, Bobbi Kristina, to costar with him.  Bobbi Kristina who was rumored to change her name to “Kristina Houston” after her mother died. Isn’t singing the same tune.

But will be tuning up the 2012 Billboard Music Awards show this Sunday, May 20th. Bobbi Kristina, is one of many who will be paying tribute to her mom. She will also be accepting the Millennium Award on Houston’s behalf. We will always love you Whitney! Rest in peace.

Grammy Awards Have Boston Connections

Grammy Awards Have Boston Connections

Posted on 20 Feb 2012 at 1:00pm

The 54th annual Grammy Awards kicked off on February 12th under less than celebratory circumstances, just one day after the sudden passing of singer Whitney Houston. Host LL Cool J opened the award show with a group prayer for the talented vocalist, and later, Jennifer Hudson performed “I Will Always Love You” in tribute to the star during the “In Memoriam” portion of the program. Hudson had long sited Houston as one of her career inspirations. Houston had presented Hudson with her first Grammy for Best R&B album in 2009. Houston’s ex-husband, Bobby Brown, and father of daughter Bobbi Kristina, was not at the ceremony. Brown, who was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts, is currently on tour with his band, New Edition.

Another highlight of the evening was the first performance by British singer Adele since her surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston this past fall. Adele even went so far as to thank her MGH surgeons by name during her acceptance speech, including Dr. Steven Zeitels, who has performed the same surgery on Massachusetts native Steven Tyler in the past. The ginger singer also revealed recently in interviews that she took comfort in a newly formed friendship with Fairfield, Connecticut’s John Mayer during her recovery. Mayer also reportedly had a similar surgery performed around the same time.

Adele went on to win 6 Grammys throughout the evening, tying Beyoncé for the most awards won by a female artist in a single evening.

During the un-televised portion of the show, Boston’s Berklee College of Music alums were up for 30 awards, and won an impressive nine. Co-written by alum Jeff Bhasker (’99), Kanye West’s “All of the Lights” won Best Rap Song and Rap/Sung Collaboration.

Other winners with Berklee ties included alum Terri Lyne Carrington (“The Mosaic Project,” Best Jazz Vocal Album) and Trey Parker (“The Book of Mormon,” Best Musical Theater Album). Yes, that’s the same Trey Parker who helped create the animated series, “South Park”. Turns out, the producer, screenwriter, and animator is also a talented musician, who studied music at Berklee before transferring to the University of Colorado, where he majored in music and Japanese.

Boston resident Jesse Lewis also won a Grammy award for his work on the year’s Best Engineered Classical Album, Aldridge: Elmer Gantry”.
